I've suffered from pretty dry skin my whole life and it's always been a source of embarrassment for me. Wearing makeup to cover up the imperfections on my face normally resulted in flaky skin and gave me anxiety in public. Would people see my imperfections? Is my foundation drying out? I hope it wasn't but it was. I would go check to see where thing were at and would notice flaking. I tried multiple foundation products that promised hydration and coverage to no avail.
Recently, I decided that if I wanted to fell better about my skin, I was going to have to take care of it. And guess what, it's working. Having a strong foundation of healthy skin makes putting on makeup so much easier. By hydrating my skin I do not need to use as many products to get an even skin tone or cover up imperfections. It's given me so much more confidence to go out into the world and talk about how to have a better version of yourself. I mean look at me, I'm here talking to all of you. 5 years ago, I would not have dreamed of doing something like this.
So let me tell you what I did to improve. I invested in a better facewash. I had been using facewashes for years to treat acne. And that's great, for the small spots with acne but it was drying out my whole face and causing all the flakiness. By switching to a cleanser with vitamin C, I wasn't using as many harsh chemicals on my face and I started to notice I didn't have as much acne. I'm not saying the acne facewash didn't work for the acne but I am saying my skin looks and feels 100% better that I stopped using it. And sure, I still have a break out every once in a while but they aren't as bad and they do not last as long.
I invested in facial oil. Coconut balances the PH in your skin and adds a boost of Vitamin A. Vitamin C facial oil brings brightness to your face and gives a healthy glow. Wearing a sleeping mask smoothed out my skin overnight and gave a great base in the morning. By making small changes I'm able to wake up and put on minimal makeup. It saved so much time and I know I can be comfortable in my skin.
